Edisto Electric Cooperative, Inc.

A thriving town, Dumbarton, was removed from the area and many of the residents relocated in towns or areas not served by Salkehatchie. The Cooperative continued to serve its sparsely populated membership for many years. The management and trustees saw that it would only be a matter of time before the Cooperative would be in trouble. Mergers were considered. So in May of 1973, both cooperatives, Edisto and Salkehatchie, had their Annual Meetings where the membership voted to merge. On August 1, 1973, Salkehatchie became Edisto.
